A HEALTHY CHURCH… declares the Gospel to the world

May is missions month at TBC, and our theme verse has several motivating truths I’d like to share with you. Romans 10:13-14 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?”

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Let’s think about our own decision to put our trust in Jesus Christ. Satan often tries to plant doubts in our minds about our security in Christ. But make no mistake. Satan is not planting doubts about whether or not we “accepted Christ in the correct way.” He is directly attacking God’s promises to us.

God SAID that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord SHALL be saved. Being saved is not about correctly praying a magic prayer. Salvation has nothing to do with us and everything to do with God’s keeping His word. Are you trusting in Jesus Christ? God SAID you are saved! To doubt that truth is to doubt God Himself. In times of doubt, cling to this marvelous truth!

“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?”

How can people put their trust in a Christ of whom they have not heard? My friends, this is why we must keep missions a high priority! Although America has strayed from its Christian heritage, biblical principles still permeate our society and legal system. No nation on earth has a heritage like ours.

We must obey the Great Commission and spread the truth of the Gospel in our towns and communities and to the uttermost parts of the earth. Practically speaking, this is the biblical reason why we as a church partner with missionary church-planters and ministry workers all around the globe.

“…and how shall they hear without a preacher?”

Not everyone is called to be a preacher, but preaching is just one of the countless ways to serve Jesus! And the old song is right–there is joy in serving Jesus! God has gifted us in different areas, and serving within our God-given skill sets is downright fun.

But here is a secret…this preacher (okay, me) LOVES serving Jesus too! I didn’t know from a young age I was going to be a pastor. I wasn’t oozing with necessary skills. Becoming a pastor has required a lot of hard work and perseverance. But I LOVE it.

What about us? When will we stop letting OTHERS give to the missionaries? When will we stop seeing missions as something that OTHERS do? When will we take the step to serve Jesus in a way that stretches us? Give it a try and take that step. I have a hunch that you will find that you will love it!
